Jun 18, 2017 · Hey all first time post but it wont be my last. I have a question I was looking to possibly get an answer for. I own a 1992 GMC Sierra 2500 454 4x4; The transmission is slipping and im looking at purchasing a used one as its far to expensive to rebuild. My swap kit is an RPMExtreme kit and I used the factory 2013 Chevy 1500 manifolds. They point straight down from rear exhaust ports and were two bolt flanges. To put it bluntly they sucked. Two bolt flanges don't seal for shit. It also required a tight-ass 90* bend out of the manifold to clear the passenger upper control arm mount.I'd be more worried about getting the electronics to shift the 6L80 working. The 4L60 and 6L80 occupied the same space in the GMT900 trucks. The 6L80 is narrower than the 4L transmissions since it doesn't have those bump-outs for the servos. If the fat beast 4L80 will fit in our trucks, I don't think the 6L80 will be much of a problem.
Here I will go over a swap I completed on a 1998 C1500 pickup. It originally had a 4.3L Vortec and swapped to a 2005 5.3L LM7 with drive by wire. Last year for sticks was 2006/2007 classic models. You can get 4.3 RCLB GMT400/800 for anywhere from 2-6k+ here in Ontario. They are not uncommon and I think the 4.3 is bad on gas so people are willing to sell them. $4-6k seems be about the going rate for a decent one of either. The 24X reluctor setup isn't really supported anymore, and new crate engines in the future will have the 54X reluctor installed. If I didn't already have the 24X system in my truck I would just step right into the 54X system.
